Every year, the city celebrates their blessings with the Pasayaw Festival. A festival ritual through ‘sayaw’ or dance. For this year’s Pasayaw Festival 2018 and fiesta celebrations, Canlaon City will enjoy a month long event from February 18-March 19, 2018. Click here to read more and find the schedule of activities!
Pasayaw Festival 2016, is a celebration of Festival of Abundant vegetable harvest a mashed-up word of “Pasalamat Pinaagi sa Sayaw” (which means thanksgiving through dancing), was created to praise God for all the blessings Canlaon City received.
On December 27, 2015 at around 1:29pm an ash eruption occurred from the active crater of the Kanlaon Volcano. The ash eruption of Mt Kanlaon could be heard in the surrounding Barangays and Cities in Negros Oriental and Occidental.
The Pasayaw Festival 2015 in Canlaon City took place on March 19. Six contingents from different schools in Canlaon participated as well as three contingents from neighboring municipalities of Guihulngan, La Libertad and Tayasan. Derived from “Pasalamat Pinaagi sa Sayaw” or thanksgiving through dance, Canlaon City is the Province’s major producer of rice and vegetables. Pasayaw expresses joy and jubilation for the abundant harvest that gives it reason to dance in the streets. The merrymaking is dedicated to St. Joseph the Worker.
