PNP – Peaceful Polls through unity

According to General Ricardo Marquez, head of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in the Negros Island Region (NIR), conducting the elections can be done peacefully through the combined efforts of the community and the government.

Marquez is also positive that this upcoming presidential election would be more peaceful than the election done last 2010. He said that we have prepared long and worked hard for the coming polls. He also stated that the army and the police are all set to cover all election activities.

In his visit at the BCPO headquarters, Marquez lead in conferring the Regional Election Monitoring Action Committee, wherein he checked surrendered firearms from around the region then proceeded to awarding and pinning ceremony to 14 police officers.

In a small speech he gave, he reminded his men to vote for the candidate that will fight for them and represent their ideals. He also stressed that they are in charge of the post-election operations in which they are required to guard the environment after they cast their votes. With regards to the poll readiness, Marquez commended Police Regional Office (PRO) in NIR led by Chief Superintendent Conrado Capa’s election preparedness.

Marquez, together with Director for Operations Jonathan Ferdinand Miano, Director for Intelligence Generoso Cerbo Jr., Director for Police Community Relations Wilfredo Franco, Director for Investigation and Detection Management Benjamin Magalong, and Director Orlando Ualat of Integrated Police Operations-Visayas attended a command conference and was informed about the deployment plan and security detail of the two Negros provinces which tackles securing the vote counting machines, localities with presence of armed groups, and areas with intense political rivalry.

Secure peaceful polls in Hot-Spots

Senior Superintendent Harris Fama, the acting director of the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office, said the election hotspots including the cities of Canlaon and Bais, and towns of La Libertad, Siaton, Tanjay, Pamplona, and Sta. Catalina are all covered by 833 personnel, excluding Civil Disturbance Management and Quick Reaction Teams.

On the other hand, the provincial police is scheduled to send personnel to the polling precincts in Negros Oriental and Occidental on Thursday, May 5, 2016.

Commander of the 303rd Infantry Brigade of the Philippine Army, Colonel Francisco Delfin, said that there is enough manpower to cover and secure the elections. The army and the police have been in coordination for any arising security concerns.
