Tourist Spots in Basay

While visiting the municipality of Basay – Negros Oriental the DC-Team was simply stunned by the beauty of nature. While Negros Oriental has a lot of gems, we believe Basay has two of the nicest places we visited over the years. Of course we were also spoiled by awesome weather and enjoyed the great hospitality of the tourism officers.

Open Pit - Copper Mine BasayWhen Nature Takes Over – The Open Pit

The Open Pit in Barangay Maglinao is an old copper mine with stunning nature and colors. The CDCP Mining Corporation was mining copper from 1079 until 1983. When the copper price dropped drastically world wide, they were forced to close down the place. While there are some reports about certain activities over the last 20 years online, basically nature was left to its own and took the place over again.

The Open Pit in Basay is usually not easy accessible for tourists as it is private owned. However, one can get in touch with the tourism officer of the municipality. They are very helpful to organize the permit, transport and guide. The old copper mine is roughly 10 kilometer outside the town. Going there with flip flops is not advisable as you have a nice little walk over sharp rocks and small pathways.

The open pit has two lakes which can be reached after 60 minutes walking. The second one is home to uncountable wild ducks. Make sure to carry enough water. Especially during the hot summer month it is advisable to start early. There is not much shade along the route and it is really getting extremely hot.

Beaches of Basay

While the east coast of Negros has mainly rocky or dark-sand beaches, Basay is blessed with a long, wide stretch of white sandy postcard beach. No matter is you stroll along the public natural beaches and enjoy the daily life of the fishermen or unwind and relaxes at a private beach in a resort, one simply cant go wrong. The cherry on the pie is certainly the breathtaking sunset on the west coast of Negros Island. Enjoy the end of the day with your loved ones with a cocktail in your hand … or two. After that one is certainly ready for a nice dinner like at Funtasea Beach Resort.
