Not only on national level, also on regional level are many new elected mayors and vice-mayors in Negros Oriental. In Dumaguete City, the tradition that a vice-mayor can’t win a mayoral election remains standing.
Felipe Antonio Ipe Remollo will take over the position as Mayor of Dumaguete City. In a close race Ipe Remollo outnumbered incumbent Vice Mayor Woodrow Maquiling Sr. by 2,386 votes.

According to General Ricardo Marquez, head of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in the Negros Island Region (NIR), conducting the elections can be done peacefully through the combined efforts of the community and the government.
The Commission on Higher Elections in Negros Oriental has voted on disregarding the program primarily because there are subjects on legality that are still left unanswered.
The presidential elections are of course the dominating event not only in Negros Oriental in May 2016, but in the whole country. However, there is a lot to do, if one is fed up with all that campaigning.
After toxic smoke was released from the dumpsite fire of Dumaguete, the Dumaguete City Council declared 5 Barangays under the state of calamity last Saturday, 16. April 2016. These 5 Barangays are Candau-ay, Cadawinonan, Balugo, Batuingel, and Camanjac.
