Typhoon Odette victims are slowly getting back on their feet after the super typhoon hit several parts of the Philippines last December 16, 2021. In Negros Oriental, areas such as Bais City, Bindoy and Guihulngan City suffered the most damages. Until now, electricity and sustainable water are not back to normal. Despite this tragedy, a lot of generous and kind people continuously help those in need. Relief goods are being transported to affected areas by both public and private sectors.
The Provincial Government of Negros Oriental reported 66 dead, 22 missing, and 92 injured from Typhoon Oddete as of December 22, 2021. Meanwhile, the Philippines is suffering with an overall 333.4 million pesos for damage to farming and fishing. The Department of Agriculture announced last Monday that they will provide at least 1.35 billion worth of aid to affected farmers and fisherfolk. As of December 20, the Philippines National Police (PNP) reported and recorded at least 375 deaths caused by the typhoon.
A Big Christmas Helping Hand
The spirit of Christmas and the spirit of giving can be truly seen through people’s support and donations. Both the government offices and the private sectors are giving a big “Christmas” helping hand to those in need. Water, canned goods, rice, blankets, and tents are some of the relief goods being distributed.
Other countries are sending heir big helping hand as well. The United State Embassy said that they have already provided shelter assistance to 3,000 families and sent 10,000 food packs to Butuan City who are also affected by the calamity. Meanwhile the United Kingdom has sent £750,000 or almost 49.5 million pesos to the Philippine Red Cross “to help support those in desperate need of assistance.”
Neighboring Asian countries such as China and Japan also let out their big helping hand with China’s 8 million pesos in humanitarian assistance and Japan’s relief goods (generators, tents, sleeping pads, plastic sheets, and water containers among others).
