119th Silliman University Founder’s Day Schedule of Activities

Dumaguete City – Quarantine Edition

119th Silliman University Founder’s Day Schedule of Activities

The 119th Silliman University Founder’s Day theme for this year 2020 is “Hope Arising from the Solid Rock”. The celebration of the biggest university’s Founder’s Day in the city, and perhaps the province, has been put to test throughout time and now, it is tested by a pandemic. Just like this year’s theme, the institution’s will to arise from the solid rock can be seen through their Founder’s Day Calendar. Although most events are held online for the safety of everyone, it doesn’t mean that the celebration is forgotten and put aside!

The Silliman University Founder’s Day is one of the most awaited events not only for every Sillimanian, but for the entire city as well. Their highlight events include the search for the annual Miss Silliman, the Silliman Parade, numerous worship services & alumni reunion and of course the HIBALAG! Due to the pandemic caused by the outbreak of the coronavirus, most of these events are cancelled or made through online. Before we look at this year’s Silliman Founder’s Day 2020 Calendar, let’s take a walk down to memory lane.

Unfortunately, the DC-Team did not cover any of the Miss Silliman pageantry last year (2019) due to the “strict” demands of the new Student Council. Since 2014, the DC-Team were able to take pictures/videos of the beauty and brain contest. It looks like two years in a row we will not have a Miss Silliman  video. So here is an older one to enjoy!

One of the most awaited celebration of the Silliman University Founder’s Day is the HIBALAG! The different departments of SU builds a creative booth and holds different kinds of contest such as Hibalag Festival King and Queen. Various food booths, souviner shops and even wall climbing can be seen at the Hibalag Grounds. This event is open for all!

The student council and the different department heads of Silliman University has thoroughly thought of the events allowed for Founder’s Day. As mentioned earlier, most of these events will be held via a video call conference or through other online media. Facebook live videos will be provided by the official Silliman University page.
