Face Mask & Face Shield – Now Required!

Dumaguete City and the rest of the Philippines is required to start wearing face mask and a full-face shield when in public under Resolution No. 88. The new requirement was announced by Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque at the Malacañang today, December 15, 2020.

Face Mask & Face Shield - Now Required!

IATF Resolution No. 88 was released and signed last December 14, 2020, mandating the use of a face mask and face shield when going out in public. Since the Christmas and New Year holidays are fast approaching, it is important to lessen the COVID-19 transmission.

According to the Presidential Spokesperson, Harry Roque, face shields are additional protection to avoid a surge. It won’t be required if it is not good for our health. Aside from wearing of face mask and shield, everyone in the Philippines are to limit their activities outside their homes. Gatherings of more than 10 people are still prohibited in areas under general community quarantine (GCQ). Religious gatherings like mass or work-related gatherings like seminars and conferences must be kept at 30% capacity of its venue. Christmas shopping for minors are only allowed if parents are around. The Inter-Agency Task Force or IATF are to implement the latest regulations according to the latest resolution.

Below is the section of Resolution No. 88 mandating the use of face mask and shield:

SECTION [8] GENERAL PROVISIONS

  1. All persons are mandated to wear full-coverage face shields together with face masks, earloop masks, indigenous, reusable, or do-it-yourself masks, or other facial protective equipment which can effectively lessen the transmission ofCOVID-19, whenever they go out of their residences, pursuant to existing guidelines issued by the national government subject to fair and humane penalties or punishments that may be imposed by LGUs or implemented by law enforcement agencies, respectively. LGUs are hereby enjoined to use IATF-endorsed contact tracing and contact monitoring applications (StaySafe.ph and Tanod COVID) where they are available or use community-based contact tracing and contact monitoring. Concerned LGUs are hereby enjoined to issue the necessary executive order or ordinance to this effect.

Wear your facemasks and shields. Practice social distancing of 1 meter. Cough or sneeze on your elbow or a disposable tissue. Avoid contact, especially with hands, with anyone in public. Always sanitize your hands after touching objects in public.
