Typhoon Tino 2025 Afthermath

Canlaon City Negros Oriental

In the wake of the recent typhoon that struck Canlaon City, the people of Negros Oriental have shown extraordinary resilience and compassion through a large-scale donation drive dedicated to helping affected families. The Canlaon Donation Drive, organized by Board Member Jessica Jane “Ikay” Villanueva  and local volunteers, civic groups, and private individuals, has become a symbol of unity and hope during one of the city’s most challenging times.

The initiative began only hours after floodwaters receded, when community leaders and concerned citizens opened collection points for food packs, clothing, blankets, hygiene kits, and clean drinking water. Social media played a major role in spreading awareness, inspiring residents from neighboring towns such as Vallehermoso, Guihulngan, and Jimalalud to contribute as well. Donors from Dumaguete City also joined in, bringing rice, canned goods, and medicines to support the growing needs of evacuees.

Volunteers worked tirelessly day and night, sorting donations and distributing relief goods to evacuation centers where hundreds of families sought temporary shelter. Many of them lost homes, farmlands, and livelihoods. For these survivors, each care package served not only as physical aid but also as a reminder that they were not alone in their struggle.

Local youth organizations, church groups, and business owners also stepped in, offering transportation, manpower, and temporary spaces for storage. The collective effort showed how deeply the spirit of bayanihan lives within the people of Canlaon and the entire province.

The Canlaon Donation Drive continues to grow, proving that even in moments of disaster, kindness rises stronger than any storm. Through shared compassion, the community is slowly rebuilding one donation, one helping hand, and one hopeful heart at a time.

The DC-Team was joining the donation ride to Canlaon City organized by some members of the Provincial Government of Negros Oriental. Some Board Members joined the trip and were all “hands on” BM Peter Paul Renacia BM Marcelo “Bobot” Adanza BM JM Alvarez BM Angel Soliva BM Erwin Macias.

We went to some more remote barangays, which could hardly be reached. At some point, the big truck was stuck on a big boulder and we continued with smaller pick-ups. There is still a lot of help needed, and we hope, it is not the last time, we can go on a donation drive. Feel free to get in touch with us, if you want to help. We make sure, that no centavo is wasted.
