Dr. José Protacio Rizal Mercado y Alonso Realonda (commonly just known as Dr. Jose Rizal) is the known as the national hero of the Philippines and a polymath during the concluding Spanish colonial period of the country. Before his exile to Dapitan, Dr. Rizal was given a chance to make a stop to a nearby island. During his stop, he walked for a couple of hours along a shore, which is known today as the Rizal Boulevard of Dumaguete City.
