Manjuyod – Negros Oriental

With a population of more than 42,000 people located in Negros Oriental north of Dumaguete, the municipality of Manjuyod has been an attraction to visitors from near and far for all the right reason. It is a perfect tourism gateway. It is visited by thousands of people visit the region each and every year. As a matter of fact, it is a place of diversity and contrast with very diverse culture and natural appeal.

It is located in the northern part of the Oriental Negroes. On the south is bordered by Bais and on the northern side is the Bindoy. Practically, it is approximately 58 km from the city of Dumaguete. Manjuyod is actually made up of 27 barangays and covers a total area of 264 square kilometers.

Getting to Manjuyod

Manjuyod is about 68 km north of Dumaguete City. Known for its white sandbar, Manjuyod is a good place to visit during summer or any time of the year.

One way in getting to Manjuyod is by a Ceres Bus. Riding a bus will take about one hour and a half from Dumaguete City and will cost about Php 85.00 for air-conditioned rides while the regular non-air conditioned bus will cost about Php 75.00 only. Another way in getting to Manjuyod is via a V-hire (van for hire). Traveling time will only take about an hour and a half as well from Dumaguete but will only cost about Php 70.00.

Brief History of Manjuyod

The history of this municipality in Oriental Negros dates back to the time when Spaniards came. It is one of the places where people chose to settle after where they initially lived became very crowded. It actually got its name from the early inhabitants.

Practically, if you are one of those people who love to visit and experience original culture and traditions in the Philippines, then this municipality certainly has to be on your list. When it comes to tourism, Manjuyod definitely has a lot offer. Tourism is their main source of revenue. The white sand bar has become quite a magnet for tourism. These remarkable features have certainly made Manjuyod stand out, and one of the most sought-after destinations by many visitors of Negros Oriental. The white sandbar is a narrow beach over six-kilometer at the lowest tide. It is breathtaking and it is one of those natural features that will remain in your mind for a very long time if you happen to see them. When it comes to delicacies, basically, you will be spoiled for choice. The place has been known for its great sea food delicacies fresh from the ocean.

When it comes to matters of education, this municipality has really taken them very seriously. Its main objective has been to provide basic and quality education to the young population. For example, Manjuyod National High school has been at the forefront in the provision of quality education. It was founded in 1948 by Don Daniel Sycip. There are other good schools in this area that offer quality education.

Saint Francis of Assisi, for sure, has become quite synonymous with Manjuyod. He is the patron of Manjuyod and his day is actually celebrated on 4th October annually. In fact, on this day people in this town do not go to work. That shows how important this day is.
