Barangay Bagacay

Dumaguete 2018 Barangay Bagacay Barangay Hall

Barangay Bagacay with a population of around 10.000 people is one of the biggest Barrios in Dumaguete City. Many Dumagueteños are doing their weekly shopping partially at Hypermart, which is located at this Barangay. Most people from the neighboring municipality of Valencia passing through Bagacay on their way to downtown Dumaguete. The Barangay is also home to some medium and upscale sub-divisions.

Brief History of Barangay Bagacay

The Barrio got its name from the Visayan word “Bagacay”. This term is the name of a species of small bamboo-family. The tin hallow trunk with long internodes have such small bamboo which made the one distinction from other localities; hence, the name bagacay became the popular and accepted name up to the present.
