Barangay Camanjac
Barangay Camanjac is located in the north of Dumaguete, approximately 3 kilometer from the North National Highway and 6 kilometer from the City Center. Around 4,500 people call Camanjac their home.
Brief History of Camanjac
During the period of our history when this place was a dense forest with few people, plenty of peculiar big birds called “manhac” populated the area. These types of birds had the characteristics of a rooster. The bird could also make a peculiar loud sound. During the organization and establishment of the barro, the prominent people of the town as well as casual visitors always made reference to the place as the place where so many mahac are. Camanjac was later adopted from the Visayan term “Camanhacan” as the name of the barangay.
Camanjac Elementary School
The Camanjac Elementary School was founded back in 1938. The 8,000sqm land, where the school sits on was purchased by the city government and donated to the Department of Education. 15 faculty taking care of the educational needs of approximately 550 pupils.
