The western part of the city is the location of Balugo Elementary School. It is near the Dumaguete Dumpsite across the Banica River. The school is an estimated to be 250 meters away from Palinpinon – Candau-ay road. At first it was a satellite of Candau-ay Elementary School with Dr. Carmencita C. Tan as the supervising head.

Brief History of Balugo Elementary School

Remembering the past, Balugo Primary School blossomed upon the clamor of more than fifty relocated families in Balugo, Dumaguete City. They wanted a school that is just along the neighborhood for their growing children. Seeing the need to meet the demands of the constituents, the government opted to build a humble three-room building in 1975 for Grade 1 and Grade 2 as well as for the day care classes.

Balugo Elementary school became a complete elementary school in the School year 1990-1991 with Mrs. Churchita Villarin as the head of the school. Within the year, a two room Bagong Lipunan Building was constructed which serves as classroom for grade six at present. Now the school has four Building with eleven classrooms, one lunch counter and a Principal’s Office. Furthermore, the school is not alone in its course of molding the young generation in preparing them to face life’s realities and challenges through education but it is also supported by the Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) in terms of project formulation and implementation.

Balugo Elementary School sits on 7,000 square-meters of land where 15 teacher take care of 439 pupils. These students are divided into 13 sections. Two additional faculty taking care of all additional demands of the daily business in the elementary school of Balugo.

It is noteworthy that many Balugo Elementary School Alumni have still strong connections to the school. Jennifer V. Relosa, Joy T. Dela Cruz, and Glerane N. Reducto graduated here and returned to their roots after finishing their studies and are now teacher at the school.
